It all started when...

"If you ever wanted to know true courage, look no further than these two extraordinary young women and the children they represent..."

I thought what I did was HARD until I met Allie, the daughter of one of my peers and close friend. At the time Allie had several diagnoses including Crohn's disease, something my grandfather Moise suffered from. I was very close to my grandfather, and now I felt forever connected to Allie and her family.

Then our hearts were dealt another hit when we found out that Jonna, Allie's younger sister, was diagnosed with Gastroparesis. The little girl who begged her parents for "Chef Mike's duck!" as a birthday dinner only a year before, devouring three seperate duck courses no less, couldn't eat that duck now.

My life revolves around food. It is my passion, my craft, my true love.  Witnessing people enjoy my cooking can be wonderful and gratifying in so many ways and yet I cannot begin to imagine not being able to enjoy what one loves to eat, discovering new tastes or simply enjoying a home cooked family meal.

Food is the common denominator around the world. No matter your race, religion or politics we can all come together to eat a meal in celebration, necessity, family time or holiday. Perhaps food can bring you closer to our family...

Through the Fighting H.A.R.D. Foundation, Allie & Jonna show other children how they are not alone, raise awareness and aid in the funding of programs that can help make life a little easier.
